Job Responsibilities

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
The Quality Manager (QM), Aircraft Final Assembly is responsible for leading the implementation and management of Quality Control (QC) systems and processes in Viking’s aircraft final assembly operations. The QM will lead and manage the team of QC inspectors, and be ultimately responsible for all aircraft QC inspections and material receiving inspection. The QM will also have indirect responsibility for Quality Assurance activities including equipment calibration, document control and internal audit.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead the development and implementation of a Quality Control system that ensures aircraft final assembly operations comply with the highest standards of customer expectations and regulatory requirements in accordance with Viking Air’s Quality Management System;
• Lead, manage and develop the team of QC inspectors;
• Assume direct responsibility for all aircraft QC inspections and material receiving inspections;
• Develop standard work to continually improve the definition of QC inspection standards;
• Implement, enforce, and continually improve the Viking Quality Management System in aircraft final assembly operations;
• Develop performance metrics which reflect and communicate the status and integrity of the Quality Control system;
• Maintain oversight of Quality Assurance processes in aircraft final assembly operations, including equipment calibration, document control, internal audit and corrective action management;
• Oversee the accuracy of all internal quality related documentation and records, including calibration and training records;
• Lead and manage the Nonconformance system in aircraft final assembly;
• Lead and conduct root cause corrective action (RCCA) investigations as part of Viking Air’s Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement processes;
• Work with Quality Engineering to develop and implement an aircraft system functional test strategy;
• Other duties as required.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
The Quality Manager is a member of the Aircraft Final Assembly Operations Senior Management team. The Quality Manager will report directly to the Manager, Production Engineering and Quality Control, and is peers with the Quality Assurance Manager.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Graduation from a recognized university or technical trade institute or equivalent training;
• Minimum of 10 years related experience in an aeronautical assembly or component manufacturing environment;
• Conversant with the Canadian Aviation Regulations, esp. CAR 561 & 563 and experience working in a Transport Canada Civil Aviation regulated Quality Environment;
• Membership of ASQ or similar professional organization would be an asset;
• Experienced in developing systems to measure voice of the process, using methodologies such as process control, SPC and Six Sigma;
• Previous experience within an ISO9000, or preferably, AS9100 approved organization;
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Good decision making skills with the ability to supervise and provide direction to personnel under his/her authority;
• Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to resolve conflicts;
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision and direction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The requirement of the Quality Manager position includes: visual, hearing, and, speaking abilities; and the ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time
