Operational Improvement Specialist – Contract position

SMART is recruiting an operational improvement specialist for its Calgary office. Reporting to the manager, operational effectiveness, you will work with SMART’s operations – operational effectiveness team. You will be responsible for working with business leaders to create high performance processes to support corporate strategies. You will work with all facets of the business to analyze business processes, identify areas for improvement and re-design the business process to align with the organization’s strategies and objectives, reducing cycle times, reducing areas of waste and inefficiency.


Job Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include the following:
• Working with business leaders to understand and analyze current business processes and identify bottlenecks and challenges
• Identifying metrics and assisting the organization with setting up dashboard and metrics collection systems
• Supporting business leaders in linking project metrics to strategic and operational objectives using business process management principles
• Conducting benchmarking studies to determine targets and goals for business processes
• Identifying and prioritizing opportunities for process improvement; managing and executing process-improvement projects
• Developing and delivering presentations to all levels of management
• Coaching and mentoring employees in the understanding and application of process-improvement tools and methodologies such as BPR, Six Sigma and Lean
• Supporting process owners in linking project metrics to strategic and operational objectives using business process management principles
• Working with business leaders to create and foster a culture of continuous improvement within SMART
• Managing the cultural shift necessary to implement new processes


Qualifications

You have the following qualifications:
• Degree in business or a related field, an MBA would be an asset
• At least seven years’ experience in project management or business leadership
• At least five years’ experience in process improvement
• Experience in application of process-improvement methodologies like BPR, Lean or Six Sigma
• Experience developing process-improvement training curriculum or leading training classes
• Proven track record delivering significant business performance improvements
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Excellent team-building skills, including the ability to foster cross-team learning
• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in a diverse, multidiscipline team environment
• Proven success working with complex processes and organizations to ensure project resources are secured efficiently
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, quantitative and analytical skills
• Proficient using Microsoft® Office software and Minitab® statistical software
• Preferably, Six Sigma Green Belt
